PostSubject: Project rocket car   Wed 06 May 2009, 11:33 am

So as most know I own two mr2s, a first and second gen. Well the first gen is really light and only has about 120-130 hp. Where as the second gen is a good 700-800 a heavier but is stock with 200 hp.
So the plan is to pull the engine in the 91 turbo and put it in the 85 NA. With the mods done to the 91's engine and the 85 body being so light this car should haul a$$ with 240 wheel hp.

I'm starting to get all the parts I need to do the swap and probably won't be done with everything till winter or next spring but it will be completely worth it. Oh and I almost forgot I founda built 2g engine to go into the 91 mr2 so I'm not just leaving the poor thing engineless.

Let's here some comments/ ideas. Probably gonna need a lil help( idk how to do custom engine mounts)

thats crazy . . .honestly i would keep the engine in the 91 and put the engine you found in the 85. the you wont have two cars down at once. i know you have 3 but as far as "show car" goes.

Well The 91 would be getting the same engine pretty much just built that's all. So if I had the built one ready I could pull and swap the new one in like a day or two. So it wouldn't be that bad I just haft to wait till I get all the parts I need b4 tearing stuff appart. Plus I don't want the blue mr2 to have a built engine I just want it to be fast but reliable. I won't be able to pull or swap the 91 till I move into my house in like 2 months, I will have a garage then. Smile

LOL I'm good with my 4 bangers but no it's just a long block build with foriged internals and head work. I would still haft to get the alternator, water pump, turbo and so on but I'm ok with that cuz with everything new I don't haft to worry about problems. I'm trying to decide if I wanna go with the stock turbo or not tho. And as far asbthe ecu and harness I haft to get those. Won't be much tho. Gotta love the mr2 form

oh ok. . .yeah mr2s are like civics in that aspect, you can find anything for them and its fairly cheap.
As for the turbo. . .you dont want to go too big then youll take 2gs like me to spool lol i would say upgrade to like a ported 16g. turbodsm can tell you more about those than i can. i just know they are a nice mid size turbo.

well to tell u the truth its hard as hell to find brownies for mr2s. the form web site is about the only place u can find anything and even then sometimes its hard. and as for the turbo....the next step up from the stock is a ct27. and people sometimes just trim there stock turbo to spool faster....so thats always an option. but idk

update. i just found a web site called speed-source that has a engine mount kit to do the 2nd gen engine swap in my 1st gen mr2. it has front and rear mounts that line up with the stock bolt holes and the company will send a special tool that attaches to the strut towers and allows you to line up the side mounts perfectly.

im ordering this kit and pulling my old engine next month. i hope to have the engine in the car and it be drivable before next spring.

this kit pretty much make my day today, the hardest part of the swap now is just going to be connecting the stock harness and everything to the engine.
