PostSubject: ARUSH WEBSITE   Sun 15 Nov 2009, 6:53 pm

Hey everyone. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to create a website for the club. I am a professional web developer so this will be a doable task. I am extremely busy but have already put something together to get things started.

I would love to hear suggestions from everyone on what they would like to see on the site. Of course there will be the obvious like Gallery, About the club, application to join, list of upcoming car shows, RSS feed and such. If you have ideas or have seen something you like on other sites, just post the link in this topic.

The site will need to be constantly update at least every two days with fresh content. It does not have to always be content about the club or its members but it can be content about anything car related. This will drastically increase the chances of organic search traffic. Using the site to help build the ARUSHcc brand will be an excellent tool.

Once we decide who will have access to edit/add content, I can set that up and we can get that rolling.

Until then, I am taking suggestions on functions and features of the website. Once the site is ready to go live, it will be moved to the clubs URL.

Thanks everyone and I can't wait to hear your suggestions.

Shane, Redtube.com lol

I have some suggestions to get things started.

It might be nice to have a banner/area that is always visible where ARCC pictures continually change.

Introduction page - all things good about ARCC

Club gallery - (pictures of events and shows where ARCC members were in attendance)

Members gallery/page - How hard would it be to have an area/gallery for each member? Something simple, maybe a standard form they fill out that allows them to post and update pictures and information about their vehicle. It would have to be reviewed once a year to remove members who do not renew their membership.

Forum - Can we incorporate our own forum? The current forum is free but unfortunately we are at the mercy of the group who host it. It is very limited and I donít think there is any way to back it up. Iím not sure we can migrate the current one over and keep everything that is there. What are our options?

Sponsor information and other links

Club information Ė Member requirements, Club bylaws and maybe a online membership application

News and events - information that the public would need to know, places ARCC will be and our show information.

Members only page - Information that only members can see . This could be part of the forum. We definitely need a calendar that members can easily access. Maybe we put our news letter on it. This could be a password protected page. We could change the password every year and print it on the membership cards.

---Yes, this is something that I already have added to the website. Its a horizontal slideshow that 'flips' through club member's cars.

Introduction page - all things good about ARCC
---There is an about page but it current does not have anything on it. I would assume someone who knows more about the club than me right something.

Club gallery - (pictures of events and shows where ARCC members were in attendance)
---This is a great idea. Currently I only have a gallery of member's cars but we can have as many galleries as we want. Car show pictures will attract new visitors as well.

Members gallery/page - How hard would it be to have an area/gallery for each member? Something simple, maybe a standard form they fill out that allows them to post and update pictures and information about their vehicle. It would have to be reviewed once a year to remove members who do not renew their membership.
---I really like this idea. I can definitely build this. It may take a little while but shouldn't be an issue.

Forum - Can we incorporate our own forum? The current forum is free but unfortunately we are at the mercy of the group who host it. It is very limited and I donít think there is any way to back it up. Iím not sure we can migrate the current one over and keep everything that is there. What are our options?
---This is something I have already thought about. I actually have already 'set up' a forum on the new site. It is easier to customize too. But the best part about it is that people find forums through search engines but if the club's forum is not 'on' the clubs URL than they may never come visit the actually club site. The con is that you can not export the database so...everything that is on the current forum right now will not be on the new one. But! This isn't actually a bad thing. I have been on forums before that close shop and move. What happens is that the old posts are deleted and the only topic left explains that the forum has been moved and asks members to create a membership on the new site. Then the only members are active ones that actually use the forum. From there, (this part is fun) we flood the new forum with content about anything and everything. You can't have an empty forum! So in my opinion a new forum is a great idea because it gives it a fresh start with more options. Also, the club will have direct access to all members email so we can set up better newsletters and events the club will be attending. Backups will be possible as well. Then if we decide to ever move the forum again, we will actually be able to keep all the posts, memberships, everything because we have control over the server its on.

Sponsor information and other links
---Yes a links page is a must. That is an easy add.

Club information Ė Member requirements, Club bylaws and maybe a online membership application
---I have already built an online club application. It's an online form the visitor can type into and send directly from the website. It can then go to a mailing list of email address from members. e.g. President, Vice President. Requirements/bylaws can be added as a seperate page too. This should be something gone over at a meeting.

News and events - information that the public would need to know, places ARCC will be and our show information.
---This is very important for the website and would need to be updated at least 4-5 times a week. This will drastically increase new visitors to the site and club exposure. We will have to think outside of the box too. We don't want to just post events in Ohio or events ARCC is attending. We would want to post events/shows all over the country. Reason: ARUSHcc website could become a source for people to stay up to date on upcoming shows across the US. Go beyond that, we can post news on the latest body kits, performance parts, concept cars! Anything that people may search Google for, we can put on the site to attract new visitors and hope to convert them into returning visitors!

Members only page - Information that only members can see . This could be part of the forum. We definitely need a calendar that members can easily access. Maybe we put our news letter on it. This could be a password protected page. We could change the password every year and print it on the membership cards.
---A password protected area is a good idea. I would keep the calendar a public option to view but an area just for members where club updates are posted is a great idea.

If anyone actually reads all of that I applaud you. Very Happy You may have picked up on the fact that I want the site to be able to attract new visitors from all over the US/World. It is very possible and doable especially if we can get a few guys to be dedicated and help manage/add content on the site/forum. Once our numbers increase, we can place advertisements on the site and maybe even promote local businesses. Advertisements can be on a website and still look very professional. My thought is that when our traffic is up, let's make a little money for the club to help pay for events and parties.

Our options are limitless. So if anyone has any questions for me, please feel free to post in this topic and I will answer them a quickly as I can.

CLIFTON cheers You the man! Come on guys Clifton and I are going to get carpal tunnel from all this typing. As we discussed at the meeting, we have a reputation of standing out through our professionalism and organization. Our website could really be our crown jewel putting us at a level far above most clubs. We are truly blessed to have the type of members we have and those we are attracting. I'm sure Clifton is going to do an outstanding job. I hope we can make it as easy for him but we really need everyone to through out some thoughts on what they would like to see. We got Shane's idea so we are going to put some pictures up of naked cars study

Yes, definitely. We can offer that to anyone who wants one. It can actually just forward to their personal email address so you don't have to check two email addresses. Wink

PS We won't want to use those two emails now though because now since they are posted on this forum, they will be scooped up by the evil email address farm bots! Twisted Evil

Slim to none. They were only live for a couple hours.

A tip to everyone, NEVER post your personal email address on a website or forum. Don't even link to it unless you want a crap load of spam! LOL

Yes multiple galleries is a good idea. And each photo has the ability to leave comments. That can be used as suggestions. But all comments will be moderated before they are posted to the live site to keep things friendly and mature.

it may have been said but what if when a visitor clicks on a member from the galley, it opened up a profile (like myspace or facebook) and allows them to view it like a fan page. also it would allow the members to customize whats on their profile. just spit ballin here lol.

I think that is another good idea. If members want to have links to their myspace, facebook or other profile pages we can provide a space for those links under their individual ARCC member page. We do have a few of members that live out in the boonies and believe it or not they don't have internet so they don't have any profile pages on any of those other sites. For those few people we can put a ARCC page together for them.

I am totally down with that idea. I just need to be confident that people will actually update their arcc profile and use it because it will take a little time to program something like that but I don't have a problem doing it.

@Jerry Thanks for updating the nameservers. I got everything moved over. Although I am the only one who can access the site right now, when it's ready, it will be made live to everyone.

Ok sounds great guys! I have already been thinking about how I can implement a profile for each member. Once I have that set up, I want the members to really push their ARUSHcc profiles on their social network profiles like, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or whatever you have. If you don't have anything, "Stop living under a rock and start living in 2009".

Your profile link will probably be something like, http://arushcarclub.com/author/candyeclipse/ (note:this is a dead link) and you can give this to people to view. And it will have information about you and your car. Probably a place to put links to your other social profiles. And a link to your own photos. Something like that is what I am thinking.

You guys have me now, utilize me and give me ALL your ideas. Jerry and I are going through your suggestions and filtering what to do now and what to add later. No idea is a stupid idea. I really LOVE everything you have suggested so far. ARCC needs a site to be proud of. Thanks!
